The Jackson 5 will reunite next month in Los Angeles where will be honored with a lifetime achievement prize at BMI’s Urban Awards on September 4.
A BMI spokeswoman said all the Jackson brothers except Michael have confirmed they will attend the ceremony at Beverly Hills’ Wilshire Theater. The group will not perform. Instead, a star-studded collection of music acts will pay tribute to the band with a medley of the brothers’ greatest hits.
The Jackson 5 were the first band ever to have their first four singles (”I Want You Back”, “ABC”, “The Love You Save”, and “I’ll Be There”) reach #1 on the pop charts. The J5 was also the first black teen idols to cross over and appeal to white audiences.
